The celebration of International Women’s Day in Abakaliki reached extraordinary heights when the Inner Wheel Club of Abakaliki Central unveiled a modern bungalow constructed for an indigent woman at Ikenyi Village, Inyimagu Community, Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State. This remarkable achievement represents the star project initiative of Club President IWM Mabel Udude for the 2024/25 Inner Wheel year, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to transforming lives through shelter provision.
The beautiful bungalow, built specifically for a hearing-impaired lady, stands as a testament to the club’s dedication to supporting the most vulnerable members of society. The unveiling and handover ceremony featured strong solidarity from all four Inner Wheel Clubs in Abakaliki, showing unified support for this groundbreaking initiative.
District Chairman IWM Deborah Chinwe Okah cut the commissioning tape and praised the club’s extraordinary gesture. “You did this for this woman to have a home, and we know what Inner Wheel is all about; we give succour to the less privileged. Today we are witnessing this beautiful project as a testament to Inner Wheel’s vision and mission,” she declared, encouraging the beneficiary to remember the club in her prayers.
Speaking on behalf of his hearing-impaired sister, an elder brother expressed profound gratitude and offered heartfelt prayers, saying that as the club had built a house for his sister, so God would make an eternal shelter for each member of the club in heaven.
The celebration continued with the presentation of a wheelchair to a physically challenged lady, representing a District Project. This wheelchair was donated for district projects by National Representative IWM Karen Uwaje during the recent National Rally tagged “Incredible Lagos.” The ceremony concluded back at the club meeting venue in Abakaliki with refreshments and social interaction, perfectly capturing the spirit of International Women’s Day celebration
